What do I need to keep a clown fish?
« on: April 30, 2008, 05:39:34 am »
I have really been bitten by the aquarium bug, and I have several freshwater tanks now.  Every time I go to the pet store I am in awe of how pretty clown fish are.  They are just much different than any freshwater fish.  Much more animated and personality, it seems like.

What would I need to buy and do in order to keep a few clown fish?

some grow larger than others. some stay small.
im pretty sure they do best in pairs. and do not mix the different species of clownfish from what my fish store told me.
if this is going to be your very first fish tank i would recommend that you do a freshwater tank until you get the hag of it.
saltwater tanks are more expensive to start up but maintnence is actually not as hard as people make it out to be.
I do not even have to change any water out of my tank.
it has a lot of live rock in it though which you will need as well to help with the filtration.
for the most part maintnence will be water top offs b/c of evaporation.
a good pet store prefferably a small non chain one should be able to help you out a great deal. Mine did.
just started a ten gallon marine tank. its my first one too. but ive done freshwater for a few years.
its actually not that bad as far as difficulty goes. a lot of people will tell you a small tank is too hard. mine actually tests out pretty good every week. ph 8.3, salinity keep at 1.022 with RO water topp offs a few times a week, ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites keep at 0 with water changes when any are seen. temp 78 degrees

none clownfish need a bigger tank imo.just go buy a bigger better tank.a 60l tank is too small & pointless.
if you do decide to on your caution then you will have problems with ammonia nitrite and nitrate etc in such a small tank tho
but the basics you need are live sand live rock a powerhead.a water testing kit, hydrometer, salt,ro water not tap water.

join some forums and get sum info from there.
